| "History":
|
Sorry, there's
a lot of work left to do here. Essentially, the temple's legend says
that a fairy came down to swim at the nearby Xian Hu ("Fairy
Lake"), and a monk, entranced by the sight, founded a hermitage
here. Later the temple was built on the site of the hermitage.
In fact, I can find no evidence that
there was any foundation here until the municipal government built this
temple in a public park in the 1990s.

| Description:
|
The temple is
built on a series of terraces. The first is a courtyard with the
screen wall; next is the gate level, with shops and halls as well.
Then the Heavenly Kings Hall with the Happy Buddha, with two surrounding
halls. The fourth level has some kind of utility hall, but no worship
halls. On the next level is the "Treasure Hall," or what
we would call the Buddha Hall. There are four side-halls
here. Finally, there is the scripture repository at the top.
Coming back down the side of the temple, one encounters the dining hall
on one level, and the Sleeping Buddha below that. |

The Fairy Lake
Botanical Garden is an extensive park with many attractive features, not
the least of which is the lake itself. It's well worth a day's
exploration. Lunch can be had in the vegetarian restaurant next to
the temple. |
