I have used the book Hakka
Enclosed Houses extensively in building these pages. I
bought it at the Hehu (Crane Lake) New Residence Museum in Longgang Town for 98
renminbi. Most of its English text is reproduced either on the history
page, the villages page, or the houses page.

There are chapters with brief
descriptions and a lot of full-color pictures covering 16 Hakka houses, one
ancestral temple, the Dapeng Fortress, and a final
chapter lumping together "The Others." Aside from the Preface
and the brief descriptions, all text--including picture captions--is in Chinese
characters.
